3 tips for your social media marketing plan
Written by Katie Test Davis
A fresh pair of boots. A new winter jacket. A spiffed up social media marketing plan?
You read that right.
As the seasons change, we’re all craving a bit of new. Here are a few things to think about as you hit refresh on your social media marketing plan for the rest of the year.
Realign on Your Audience and Goals
Take half an hour and ensure that your channels are aligned to your organization’s target audiences and goals. For example, fresh new data from GWI shows that if you want to reach young adults between the ages of 16 and 24, you should log off Twitter and get on TikTok. Conversely, if you want to reach legislators, Twitter is the place to be—Pew Research Center data shows that the majority of them are on this platform.
Crunch Those Analytics
Now is a great time to dive into your analytics and see what’s working. With the intention of identifying what your audiences are responding to, as well as what they aren’t, take time to log what has worked and what hasn’t. An easy way to do this is to determine your most and least popular posts on social media. Boot up a simple spreadsheet with columns for:
the post type (video, image, photos, etc.),
audience (parents, staff, etc.),
day and time of posting,
content subject matter, and;
any feedback you can glean (likes, impressions, comments etc.)
Once you’ve got your spreadsheet laid out, start to look for patterns. Taking a moment to reflect on your best (and worst) performing content will help you improve your work, and put your time and energy where it is needed most.

Have a Little Fun
Once you know what your audience is responding to, start having fun with it! If you’re seeing that your audience is responding to images, commit to logging onto Canva once a week to create new graphics. Is your LinkedIn content performing well? Dive into polls to see if you can attract new followers. Don’t get stuck in a rut—consider this your invitation to play and try new things!
